Statzione Termini, Rome, Italy - January 2005 
 

The video piece ‘Termini’ captures a fleeting moment in public space: the movement of swallows in flight over the piazza behind the Statzione Termini in Rome. The physical location where the video is shot periodically infiltrates the visual frame of the image as a digitally lit text naming the terminating station on the bus route. This infiltration creates a tear in the temporal progress of the moving image, disrupting and arresting the progress of the mutating mass of swallows flying overhead. The resulting single-channel video and audio work directly compares the light, delicate and mesmerising motion of the birds in flight with the more mundane, banal and human systems of bus routes, terminals and travel plans.
